Iowa Cornfields

Hi Challenger!

Not treading water, but I wear my waders when I ride the Valk now  Grin Thanks for the thought!  All is well around me, generally.  Ground is saturated because of the rain but not much standing water up here in N. central IA.  There are spots in the state that have been hit with as much as 6+ inches in 4 hrs though.  Down in Ames, the indoor college basketball court was literally floating at the ISU Hilton Coliseum.  Those poor folks have been living without running water for a few days now.  Won't see that in the national news though since no one is ranting about "when's the gov't going to help".  They'll roll up their sleeves and Get Er' Done!  That told, even with all the rain this year, estimates are that this will be the 3rd best year on record for corn harvest.  The Big Man above is smiling on the farmers again...

Take Care Darrell!

Sure is a good year for sweet corn as well and almost 1 month earlier than normal and very tasty.  Down in Savannah IL near the Mississippi River and Plum River one of the companies warehouses I work for was recently under water 8 feet INSIDE the building.  It destroyed a lot of inventory, the expensive huge cooler for storing product and the building is a total loss.  In 2 weeks from now they are salvaging what is left and shipping product to our warehouse in Monroe WI along with possibly busing workers 2 hours up north to help handle the situation.  The boss even has pics of racoons, snakes, fish swimming,  and all kinds of other critters including a coyote (eating dead critters) INSIDE the building.  It is going to be a nightmare for sure.  What a mess!  Ahh, the splendors and joys of mother nature.  Great for somethings, a nightmare for others.

Yea I saw some pics of Colfax with the furniture floating out the front doors of some of the houses. People were picking up their own belongings and I didn't see anyone sitting on the porch yelling (when they gonna help us) Whole different deal up here aint it? Not many fifth generation welfare recipients their! Crops look pretty good here, but are stressed from too much rain, believe it or not. barley had three to four days in a row with out rain here all summer. another "1.7 friday, and ".5 today

Eau Claire, WI

We've had plenty of rain up this way lately, too. The rivers, etc. are expected to crest sometime between Monday and Tuesday, but there was some obvious flash flooding in the area south of Eau Claire. I was riding near Mondovi, WI and came across a little bump in the road:

When in doubt, ride far.
