Given that the blue on pipes is due to mistuning, exhaust leak ect. is there any way to remove the blue? There are several products....blue way, blue job, ect that promise to remove the blue and blue job even has "testimonials" from people with before and after pictures, but call me suspicious, I've in the past bought oxiclean, shamwow and it never does what the ads say at least not as quickly. any help will be appreciated.

It's true that some bluing is do to lean mixture, but almost any single wall chrome exhaust pipe will blue at normal exhaust operating temps, thats why a lot of factory pipes are double walled, But that being said, I have used the Blue Job and it works well on blued pipes. If the chrome is burned or dark brown, nothing is going to reclaim it. Good luck

Yah, those aftermarket HD's pipes almost always blue even only months after installed. Good to go to a HD shop now and again to show off what most of them are missing anyways. My stock interstate pipes are blued pretty bad as well and they are double walled pretty sure about that. I am going to try blue-away this spring very lightly to see if I can get a more chrome finish, but probably need a tune-up/less lean condition/carbs cleaned to do it right. Be careful though, I have heard if rubbing blue-away too hard, it will scratch the chrome that is already on the pipes and that would not be a good thing either. If pipes do not get clean, oh well, adds character to the bike I guess??? I could always do what smokinjoe did and coat them a different color, say black, to match the black interstate?

If the pipes don't get clean, you've got a decision to make. Like you said, leave it- it adds character; coat them another color like SmokinJoe, or use a very fine steel wool and sand it off. Then get a metal polish with a buffing wheel and polish them smooth. Yes, it destroys the chrome, and yes, you periodically have to re-polish them, but they are very bright and shiny and most people won't even notice unless they're really examining the bike. Most people only see the side pipes and don't even notice the headers, that is, unless they're blue. When I say it destroys the chrome, some would argue the chrome is destroyed already....

No pics yet, but I know they're going to look better than my pipes I sanded with very fine steel wool, then buffed with metal polish.  Seriously though, my sand and polish job doesn't look bad and the blue is gone, but nothing is quite like unblemished chrome.

I have Cobra 6X6 on all my Valkyries ... These was ceramic coated years ago and still look outstanding the cost was $155.00  These was sanded down and painted black with 1500 degree stove paint the cost about $12.00 a qt and they do needed touched up from time to time<---enough to last forever.  These are the no longer made Rivco header covers when sold new they cost $280.00 I paid $400.00 for these used  Yeah I wanted them cause I could'nt stand seeing that blued header on such a awesome bike.

The blue job really works well. doesnt remove spots but does remover blue.

My experience with a BMW oilhead was that nothing worked well to de-blue. Finally got them ceramic coated but the hottest part of the pipe turns greyish after this. (better than blue tho).
