Not that I'd advocate excessive speeding, but it had been a while since I had felt the thrill of max power in a straight line.  I had the opportunity yesterday and observed a significant wobble develop at around 105 and by 110 was significant enough that I had to drop throttle and slow 'er down. 

Why is this in the Darkside forum, you ask?

Well, this may be the first time I've gone past 100 since I put on my Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread 205/60/16s.  I wonder, has anyone else with a car tire experienced anything similar?  I got up to 110 three times on the same straight with the same result.  I've had my bike up to about 120-125 when I had an Avon on the back and felt that the engine still had more to give yesterday.

Any ideas?

That could have something to do with it....Mine occasionally did that with the bike tire also. I think mine was windshield induced. I have had my car tire Valk to about 125-once it did the weave thing, several time it did not. That tends to make me think it may not be just the car tire. Huh?

Now, I am running about 28-29# in the rear since I spend a good amount of time on gravel or other loose surfaces, could that affect the wobble?

It could......might want to test it out. If it starts to wobble/weave, slow to a stable speed ASAP. Huh?

Ive had my Yokohama ADVAN A048 (38psi) above 120 many many times and completely off the dial once.  It was solid as a rock all the way.



I have a couple of questions.


Is it spin balanced?

What is the speed rating on that tire?

Could the lower pressure have it following lines in the road worse?

Yes, the mechanic who installed it balanced it first.

What is the speed rating on that tire?
"T", which is see is rated to 118 mph

Could the lower pressure have it following lines in the road worse?
The feeling of tracking lines in the road is very distinctly different from the sensation of "wobbling" that I felt.  It was very similar to the feeling that I get on my naked ninja ZR7 when I'm laying on my tank and my feet are on the rear pegs, ie: a higher center of gravity since my dead load is on the seat and not the pegs.

too bad there's not a sanctioned drag strip or similar out here.  Recently the consequence for getting caught in excess of 100mph is an automatic loss of license, impounded vehicle, and tossed in jail. 

That said, I'll have to inflate the tires up to, maybe, 35 and find someplace out of town again to test it out.

I think it could have something to do with the tread design of some of the tires.
I've had my falken z512 over 120 mph with not a peep of vibration.
I run the tire with a hard sidewall,about 40 psi.
