Ive got a 2002 valk and I'm tired of eating bugs. Can any one recommend a reasonably priced wind screen. Im not sure what to look for, I've never been on a bike with one, so I don't know if height is a concern. Do I need to get a factory screen? If I get an aftermarket, will I have vibration or performance issues? Can any one help, I dont want to spend 4 or 500 and only have problems.

You can make a whole lot of aftermarket shields fit, especially those four point mounting ones. I've had Memphis Shades and Hondaline, and I liked the Hondaline the best. Height is a concern (one size does not fit all), but if it's too high (mine always juuuuuust crossed my line of sight), you can cut it down with a Dremel or a slow sabre saw and a real steady hand (and lots of masking tape and pre-measuring). You have to cut slow (otherwise the shield will melt at the edge), and it will sand/emery up real nice and smooth.

As a benefit, any buffetting your passenger gets without a shield will be reduced or eliminated depending on the final height.

One last tip -- if you go with a Hondaline, or any other screen that has a cutout for the headlight, get it REAL clean before you put it on, cuz it's probably the last time you'll ever be able to get behind there for cleaning unless you remove the shield later.

Good luck.

The Memphis Shades works pretty good and I love the easy on and off. 20 seconds and its off. cost is about 250 dollars with everything. I bought a Rifle Raven Faring and wouldn't go back to a regular windshield. No stability problems with the Memphis Fats shield. BR
